Wellness Care

We believe that prevention is key to ensuring your pet’s long-term health and well-being.

That’s why we offer comprehensive wellness care for pets of all ages. We recommend annual exams for all pets, even those who appear healthy, to detect any potential health problems early on. During these visits, our veterinarians will perform a thorough physical exam, checking everything from your pet’s teeth and gums to their ears and eyes.

We’ll also take the time to discuss your pet’s lifestyle and any concerns you may have about their health. Based on this information, we may recommend further testing or vaccinations to help keep your pet healthy and protected against disease.

Our approach to wellness care is personalized and tailored to the unique needs of your pet, ensuring they receive the best possible care at every stage of life. Trust us to be your partner in your pet’s health and well-being.

Wellness Care for Puppies

Similar to human babies, puppies require a lot of work, patience, and visits pertaining to their health.

They are susceptible to a lot of viral diseases, and they can get very ill if not fully vaccinated. They can also suffer from a variety of congenital diseases and can be infected with intestinal parasites and pass those parasites along to us and our children.

During your puppy’s first exam, we will examine your pet to make sure they are developing appropriately. We will establish a vaccination schedule to make sure your pet is appropriately vaccinated against serious diseases and deworm your pet to make sure they are worm-free.

As part of your visit, we will also give preventative medications so that your puppy can be protected against heartworm disease, fleas, and ticks. The exam is also a time to discuss training and issues with behavior, dental care, and socialization and provide further reading information so that you will have the tools to raise a healthy, well-mannered dog.

Wellness Care for Kittens

They are susceptible to a lot of viral diseases which they can die from if not fully vaccinated, can suffer from a variety of congenital diseases, and can be infected with intestinal parasites and pass those worms along to us and our children.

During your kitten’s first exam, we will examine your pet to make sure they are developing appropriately, will establish a vaccination schedule to make sure your pet is appropriately vaccinated against serious diseases, and will deworm your pet to make sure they are worm-free. We also will recommend a blood test to make sure your kitten does not have feline leukemia or feline aids.

As part of your visit, we will also give preventative medications so that your kitten can be protected against heartworm disease and fleas. The exam is also a time to discuss training and issues with behavior, dental care, litter box hygiene, nail trimming, nutrition, and environmental enrichment so that you will have the tools to raise a healthy, well-mannered cat.

Wellness Care for Adult Dogs

As your adult dog ages, routine wellness exams are essential to ensure they maintain optimal health.

During these appointments at Bedford Veterinary Medical Center, we will review your dog’s medical history, conduct a comprehensive physical examination, administer necessary vaccines, and recommend any additional diagnostic tests.

Our vaccination protocol adheres to the American Animal Hospital Association guidelines, and we may perform blood and fecal tests to screen for heartworm disease and intestinal parasites. If further testing is required, we will discuss this with you.

Although we provide expert care for your pet during their appointments, you play a crucial role in your dog’s overall health. You are the one who observes your pet’s daily behaviors and routines, and any changes that you notice should be brought to our attention.

Please share any physical, behavioral, or environmental changes you have noticed since your pet’s last visit, and any concerns you may have. If possible, record any unusual behaviors on video so that we can better understand what you are observing.

Our goal is to provide the best possible care for your beloved companion, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Wellness Care for Adult Cats

At your cat’s wellness exam, we will thoroughly review your feline’s medical history, perform a comprehensive physical examination, and administer any necessary vaccinations.

We may also recommend further diagnostic tests based on our findings. During the exam, we may detect previously undetected issues such as weight changes or dental disease, or provide reassurance that your cat is in good health.

Our vaccination protocol is based on the guidelines set by the American Animal Hospital Association. In addition, we will perform fecal checks to ensure that your cat is free from any intestinal parasites. Depending on the results of our exam and tests, we may recommend additional testing.

As a pet owner, you play a crucial role in your cat’s health. You see your cat on a daily basis, and may be able to detect changes before we can.

Please inform us of any physical, behavioral, or environmental changes that have occurred since your cat’s last exam, as well as any concerns you may have. If your cat exhibits any unusual behaviors, capturing a video may help us better understand the situation.
