Digital Radiographs
Radiographs, or X-rays, are two-dimensional black-and-white images created when controlled radiation is passed through a body structure and recorded on a film or digital plate.
They are helpful in analyzing structures with different densities, such as air and bone. Radiographs are commonly used to detect bone fractures, fluid accumulations, and lung disease.
At Bedford Veterinary Medical Center, we use digital X-rays for superior imaging and contrast, as well as increased ease of magnifying images. This enables us to make better assessments about your pet’s health and decrease their exposure to radiation.
With our digital radiography services, we can also quickly send images to a board-certified radiologist for consultation.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive, safe, and painless procedure that allows us to visualize your pet’s internal organs with high-frequency sound waves.
It produces a moving, real-time image of your pet’s organs with more tissue detail than X-rays can provide. We typically do not require sedation during ultrasounds, which are valuable tools for assessing the shape, size, and thickness of abdominal organs. They are commonly used to diagnose and monitor the response to treatment of liver and gall bladder disease, kidney and bladder disease, gastrointestinal disorders and obstructions, tumors and cancers, and bleeding disorders.
Additionally, they can help visualize the heartbeats of puppies and kittens during pregnancy and provide safe and accurate biopsies.
